How To Change SRD Payment Method From Retail To Bank Account

There are many ways you can collect your R350 Social Relief of Distress grant payment if you are a beneficiary. Here is how to change your payment method from retail to bank account.

Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants of R350 are distributed by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) to unemployed South Africans in need of financial assistance.

Applicants who have been approved for the R350 grant can collect their payment at any of the following retail stores once they have been approved:

  • Checkers
  • Usave
  • Shoprite
  • Pick ‘n Pay
  • Boxer

It seems most convenient for beneficiaries of this grant to receive their R350 grant payment through a bank account, according to Sassa.

Beneficiaries can access their grant funds from any ATM if they use their bank account to receive grant payments.

The following steps should be followed by beneficiaries who wish to change their payment method to a bank account:

  1. Check out the SRD website
  2. Click on ‘How do I change my bank details’
  3. Please insert your ID number here
  4. Submit the form.
  5. A unique link will be sent to you via SMS.
  6. The link received in the SMS should be clicked.
  7. Go to Capture Bank’s own account and click on it.
  8. You need to capture the name of the bank.
  9. Capture Account type.
  10. Capture Account number.
  11. Click Submit.

We urge you to make sure that the bank account you choose to receive your R350 grant payment is yours.

To avoid fraud and ensure the grant payment goes to the right person, Sassa is not able to pay grants into other people’s bank accounts.

As for grant payments made using bank accounts, there is no set payment date. However, Sassa has assured beneficiaries who choose this method of payment that they will be paid.

See our Sassa section for more information on the R350 grant and other Sassa grants.
