Students at South African public tertiary education institutions, including TVET colleges, are eligible for comprehensive bursaries under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Applying for NSFAS before the closing date is very important.

During the remaining academic cycles of 2023, students enrolled at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges can apply for funding through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).

NSFAS Closing Date – Deadline

In order for students participating in the Centres of Specialisation programs to be considered for NSFAS funding, colleges must encourage them to apply during the available application window.

  • Applications for Trimester 2 will open on the 5th of May 2023 and close on the 22nd of May 2023.
  • A second round of applications will be open on July 17th and close on July 31st.
  • Applications for Trimester 3 will open on September 4th and close on September 20th 2023

TVET walk-in NSFAS applications for 2023 will open and close in accordance with the TVET academic calendar issued by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).  

The NSFAS website allows applicants to apply online. Ensure that all the supporting documents are loaded as well as your ID number.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete their online application before submitting, rather than simply creating a profile and considering their application complete.

TVET College Allowances

Students attending TVET colleges receive different allowances depending on where they live. Depending on the college, some students will live in residence halls while others will stay in private apartments.

In order to cover all the costs associated with studying, bursaries provide comprehensive funding to qualifying students. Students receive a Living Allowance, Personal Care Allowance, Accommodation Allowance, and Travel Allowance in addition to tuition and accommodations costs.
